The 2030 Agenda in international cooperation

Switzerland is committed to implementing the 2030 Agenda at the national and international levels and to helping to achieve the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). There are challenges, but also opportunities, for Switzerland's international cooperation.

The ambitious, universal, and integrative character of the SDGs, their broad scope, and the need to work with new instruments and partners require a tailored approach. This approach was incorporated as a key component of the political decision-making process in a 2018 concept paper. The paper, entitled ‹Mainstreaming the 2030 Agenda in Swiss International Cooperation›, is directed at all state and non-state actors involved in Switzerland's international cooperation. It aims to improve understanding of the 2030 Agenda and its impact on Switzerland's international cooperation, as well as providing a practical instrument for implementing the 2030 Agenda and delivering the SDGs.

The first section provides ideas and examples illustrating how international cooperation can use its instruments to help implement the 2030 Agenda. The second section focuses on the broader context of the 2030 Agenda, providing information on its global structure and on Switzerland's implementation strategy.
