SDG 1: No poverty

The 2030 Agenda defines SDG 1 as follows: end poverty in all its forms everywhere. Switzerland is making every effort to achieve this goal and its targets by 2030.

What is SDG 1 about?

True to the principle of leaving no one behind, SDG 1 aims to end poverty in all its forms around the world, to help close the poverty gap, to increase the resilience of those living in poverty in precarious situations, and to reduce their vulnerability to economic, social and environmental risks.

In order to comprehensively combat poverty, SDG 1 includes not only the eradication of extreme poverty but also a target on the eradication of relative poverty, which is based on national definitions. People affected by poverty are particularly exposed to economic and political crises, losses of biodiversity and ecosystem benefits, natural disasters and violence. To ensure that people who have escaped poverty do not fall back into it, measures are also needed to strengthen their resilience and build social security systems.

The Federal Council is committed to implementing the goals and targets of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development together with all UN member states by 2030. The federal government will provide an assessment of how well Switzerland has achieved each of the 17 Sustainable Development Goals. This will be based on an analysis of key progress and challenges for each of the total 169 targets.

How well has Switzerland progressed in its implementation of SDG 1?

What, specifically, is Switzerland doing to achieve SDG 1 and its targets? What do the figures say? What progress has Switzerland made? What challenges still need to be addressed? And who is involved in implementation?

You'll find the answers on SDGital2030.ch.
