SDG 13: Climate action

The 2030 Agenda defines SDG 13 as follows: take urgent action to combat climate change and its impacts. Switzerland is making every effort to achieve this goal and its targets by 2030.

What is SDG 13 about?

SDG 13 calls upon governments to incorporate climate action in their national policies and to support each other in addressing the related challenges. Resilience to climate-related natural disasters is also to be improved.

Climate change is one of the principal challenges to sustainable development. The warming of the earth's atmosphere is triggering changes in the global climate system. Changes in precipitation and temperature cycles also affect ecosystems such as forests, agricultural land, mountain regions and oceans, as well as the plants, animals and people who live in them. Part of SDG 13 is the acknowledgement of the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change as the key international intergovernmental forum for negotiating the global response to climate change.

The Federal Council is committed to implementing the goals and targets of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development together with all UN member states by 2030. The federal government will provide an assessment of how well Switzerland has achieved each of the 17 Sustainable Development Goals. This will be based on an analysis of key progress and challenges for each of the total 169 targets.

How well has Switzerland progressed in its implementation of SDG 13?

What, specifically, is Switzerland doing to achieve SDG 13 and its targets? What do the figures say? What progress has Switzerland made? What challenges still need to be addressed? And who is involved in implementation?

You'll find the answers on SDGital2030.ch.
