SDG 4: Quality education

The 2030 Agenda defines SDG 4 as follows: ensure inclusive and equitable quality education and promote lifelong learning opportunities for all. Switzerland is making every effort to achieve this goal and its targets by 2030.

What is SDG 4 about?

SDG 4 demands that all children, young people, adults and especially the poorest and most disadvantaged in society have access to a high standard of basic and vocational education.

Quality basic education and vocational training are key to improving the living conditions of individuals, communities and society as a whole. SDG 4 focuses in particular on basic education and vocational training, which must be geared to the individual needs and living conditions of the learners. In this way, education is to contribute to a safe, sustainable and interdependent world. SDG 4 also aims to ensure that gender disparities in education are eliminated and that the most vulnerable in society, namely persons with disabilities, indigenous peoples and children in vulnerable situations, have equal access to all levels of education and vocational training by 2030.

The Federal Council is committed to implementing the goals and targets of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development together with all UN member states by 2030. The federal government will provide an assessment of how well Switzerland has achieved each of the 17 Sustainable Development Goals. This will be based on an analysis of key progress and challenges for each of the total 169 targets.

How well has Switzerland progressed in its implementation of SDG 4?

What, specifically, is Switzerland doing to achieve SDG 4 and its targets? What do the figures say? What progress has Switzerland made? What challenges still need to be addressed? And who is involved in implementation?

You'll find the answers on SDGital2030.ch.
