SDG 5: Gender equality

The 2030 Agenda defines SDG 5 as follows: achieve gender equality and empower all women and girls. Switzerland is making every effort to achieve this goal and its targets by 2030.

What is SDG 5 about?

SDG 5 calls for women and men to be given the same economic development opportunities, for all forms of violence against women and girls to be eliminated, and for there to be equal participation at all levels.

Gender inequality is a major obstacle to sustainable development, economic growth and the alleviation of poverty. SDG 5 includes not only the elimination of violence against women and girls and equal participation, but also targets such as promoting shared responsibility within the household and family and ensuring universal access to sexual and reproductive health and reproductive rights.

The Federal Council is committed to implementing the goals and targets of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development together with all UN member states by 2030. The federal government will provide an assessment of how well Switzerland has achieved each of the 17 Sustainable Development Goals. This will be based on an analysis of key progress and challenges for each of the total 169 targets.

How well has Switzerland progressed in its implementation of SDG 5?

What, specifically, is Switzerland doing to achieve SDG 5 and its targets? What do the figures say? What progress has Switzerland made? What challenges still need to be addressed? And who is involved in implementation?

You'll find the answers on SDGital2030.ch.
