SDG 8: Decent work and economic growth

The 2030 Agenda defines SDG 8 as follows: promote sustained, inclusive and sustainable economic growth, full and productive employment and decent work for all. Switzerland is making every effort to achieve this goal and its targets by 2030.

What is SDG 8 about?

SDG 8 includes targets on sustaining and promoting economic growth, increasing productivity and creating decent jobs. Part of this is eliminating forced labour and human trafficking, and ending child labour. Furthermore, economic growth must not be achieved at the expense of the environment.

That is why SDG 8 calls for global improvements in resource efficiency in consumption and production, and targets the decoupling of economic growth and environmental degradation. Additionally, employment and economic growth are key factors in the fight against poverty. Promoting sustainable growth and a green economy and creating enough decent jobs is essential for developing, emerging and developed countries alike.

The Federal Council is committed to implementing the goals and targets of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development together with all UN member states by 2030. The federal government will provide an assessment of how well Switzerland has achieved each of the 17 Sustainable Development Goals. This will be based on an analysis of key progress and challenges for each of the total 169 targets.

How well has Switzerland progressed in its implementation of SDG 8?

What, specifically, is Switzerland doing to achieve SDG 8 and its targets? What do the figures say? What progress has Switzerland made? What challenges still need to be addressed? And who is involved in implementation?

You'll find the answers on SDGital2030.ch.
