SDG 9: Industry, innovation and infrastructure

The 2030 Agenda defines SDG 9 as follows: build resilient infrastructure, promote inclusive and sustainable industrialisation and foster innovation. Switzerland is making every effort to achieve this goal and its targets by 2030.

What is SDG 9 about?

The task with SDG 9 is to build resilient infrastructures. To make both these and industries sustainable, by 2030 resources must be employed more efficiently, and clean and environmentally friendly technologies and industrial processes promoted alongside education, research and innovation.

Investment in sustainable infrastructure increases economic growth, creates jobs and promotes prosperity. SDG 9 calls for this process to be driven forward and technological development, research and innovation to be driven forward, especially in developing countries. In addition, small industrial and other companies must be better integrated into value chains and markets. Finally, universal and affordable internet access must be provided in the least developed countries.

The Federal Council is committed to implementing the goals and targets of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development together with all UN member states by 2030. The federal government will provide an assessment of how well Switzerland has achieved each of the 17 Sustainable Development Goals. This will be based on an analysis of key progress and challenges for each of the total 169 targets.

How well has Switzerland progressed in its implementation of SDG 9?

What, specifically, is Switzerland doing to achieve SDG 9 and its targets? What do the figures say? What progress has Switzerland made? What challenges still need to be addressed? And who is involved in implementation?

You'll find the answers on SDGital2030.ch.
